The group exhibition “Plain difficult fiber-things” by Pallas’ textile students will be opened on November 28 at 5PM in the project room of gallery Pallas. The exhibition is part of the Pallas University of Applied Sciences’ practice-based research project focusing on local bast fibers.

In the exhibition “Plain difficult fiber-things”, local bast fibers and the experimental objects created from them are showcased. Central to the process are the cultivation, processing, and shaping of the material into an object—activities that might seem to require only very basic, even primitive knowledge and skills, yet are far from self-evident in a contemporary context. The exhibition explores the relationships between contemporary human, the environment, textile materials, and embodied, experiential knowledge.

As part of the research project on local bast fibers, material samples were produced from flax, hemp, and nettle fibers. In addition, the students, together with their supervisor, developed various further iterations and potential applications.
