Pallas participates at XXI Tallinn Design Festival

Pallas will participate in the Estonian Design and Architecture Schools Showcase at Põhjala, held as part of the XXI Tallinn Design Festival from September 28 to October 4. The exhibition “Exploring the Future of Design” examines how design can respond to emerging needs in a changing world, make meaningful use of existing resources, and find smart and intentional solutions.

The graduation works presented by the Department of Media Design, the Department of Furniture, the Department of Leather Design, and the Department of Textile approach these themes from different perspectives, demonstrating how design can create new solutions through visual communication, spaces and objects, as well as through materials and user experience.

Students’ graduation works: Olivia Müller-Mölder, Sandra Kirja, Minna Arukaevu, Lisandra Pekkenen, Anett Holster, Eliise Sallaste, Christina Kasesalu, Hanna-Maria Org.

The exhibition also includes the joint project “Solid Ground” by the Department of Furniture and the Department of Textile. As part of the project, design chairs that had reached the end of their lifecycle were given a new lease on life, becoming part of the students’ playful objects. The participants analysed the design logic and key values of the original products and created new solutions based on their characteristic forms and details, using found materials and production waste. Through unique solutions, the project explores more conscious, sustainable and flexible ways of creating, while giving existing materials, ideas and forms new meaning.

Participants in the project: Emily Dobrus, Leena Isabel Pizzolante, Mari Saffre, Grete Sallo, Annabel Seen, Evelin Lidmets, Trine Ots, Johanna Tuisk, Darja Zaboronok, Tiina Zukker. Supervised by Professor Aet Ollisaar, Head of the Department of Textile at Pallas, and Madis Liplap, the Chief Artist at Pallas.

Exhibition curators: Professor Aet Ollisaar and Madis Liplap.

The Estonian Design and Architecture Schools Showcase is open at Põhjala’s hangar 6 on Tue-Sat from 11 a.m until 8 p.m and on Sun from 11 a.m until 6 p.m. Opening of the showcase takes place on September 28 at 7.15 p.m.
