Kristina Allik is nominated for the Design Education Award

Kristina Allik, the assistant head of the department of furniture at Pallas University of Applied Sciences, who obtained a master’s degree in product design at the Estonian Academy of Arts is a candidate for the Design Education Award at the Estonian Design Awards competition.

The aim of Kristina’s master’s thesis “Supporting practitioners on their way to becoming an educator – a guide for higher education institutions” was to map the challenges and needs of professional practitioners involved as guest lecturers, in order to understand why, how and when a higher education institution can support a professional practitioner on their journey to becoming an educator. As a solution, a guide aimed at higher education institutions was developed to provide a framework for supporting the journey of the target group and the development of teaching knowledge.

The Design Education Award helps to recognize people who have contributed to Estonian design education. The award is given out by Estonian Academy of Arts.

Kristina has already won the Young Designer Award at the master’s level by the Estonian Academy of Arts for her thesis. The award was given at the opening of the Estonian Academy of Arts graduation festival TASE ’24 on May 29, 2024.

Estonian Design Awards is taking place already for seventh time. Winners of the 2024 competition will be announced on September 20 in Fotografiska. The Estonian Design Awards competition, taking place every two years, is organised by the Estonian Design Centre with the Estonian Association of Designers, ADC*Estonia (Art Directors Club Estonia), the Estonian Service Industry Association and Estonian Academy of Arts.
