Starting from the academic year 2024/2025, the curriculum name is Painting (former name: Painting and Restoration)

The Painting and Restoration curriculum was established in 1996 under the leadership of Professor Heli Tuksam. Since 2021, the Head of the Department is Margus Meinart. The department has numerous long-standing partnerships with various art universities across Europe, where our students actively participate in exchange studies through the Erasmus+ programme.

 

Objectives

provide high-quality applied higher education in the field of art with a specialisation in painting;

ensure the training of professionals with professional skills in line with labour market requirements, who are competent to work independently and/or in teamwork;

develop in learners a comprehensive understanding of the role of art in society;

develop in learners the skills of independent learning and raise awareness of the need for professional development and continuing training;

ensure, based on the international experience in higher education, the openness of the curriculum to change and developments in today’s dynamic world and the competence to continue studies in the Master’s programme.

 

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the curriculum, the student will be a professional with versatile basic knowledge who will:

be able to analyse their work as an artist, be able to carry out professional work as an individual entrepreneur and a team member or in cooperation with experts from other fields;

have a basic knowledge of philosophy, cultural, artistic and professional history, visual semiotics, pedagogy and business;

be familiar with the different materials required for the work, have the necessary traditional and innovative technologies and be able to apply them in compliance with the principles of environmental sustainability and sustainability;

be able to formulate and analyse problems, set objectives, plan work and time for this purpose, communicate ideas and involve different parties in the process;

have a systematic overview of the traditions and history of the discipline, principles, research methods, and current problems and be able to relate them to the development of society and technology;

comprehend the impact of art both on the individual and in the broader context of society, with analytical, synthetic and critical skills and a sense of social responsibility;

be able to express themselves orally and in writing in Estonian and at least one foreign language and have extensive international;

be able to work in different linguistic and cultural environments;

be able to explore the different aspects of a specific task, following the specific requirements of the artistic field;

be familiar with professional literature.
