This curriculum is just for you if you:
Want to engage with society through painting.
Want to develop creativity and learn to express your ideas visually.
Want to share your thoughts with fellow students and receive professional guidance.
During your studies:
You will learn about the history of the field and contemporary approaches to art.
You will develop manual skills and become familiar with the methods and materials necessary for creating art.
You will explore the practical possibilities of expression in the field by organizing exhibitions and participating in seminars, masterclasses, and art projects.
You will acquire the ability to analyze artworks and express your thoughts both in writing and verbally.
Study journey:
Within the curriculum, you will gain fundamental theoretical knowledge of the discipline. You will form your own perspective on the expressive forms and meanings of painting and learn to connect it with other fields. You will get to know the organizational practices of institutions important to artists.
Through practical studio work, you will learn to handle different painting, drawing, illustration, and graphic techniques. You will be introduced to historical techniques such as fresco and sgraffito, mosaic and stained glass, as well as modern ones like computer graphics and digital painting.
Lectures in small study groups will provide you with opportunities for direct communication, sufficient feedback, and meaningful exchange with lecturers.
You will take part in various seminars and masterclasses under the guidance of renowned artists and experts in the field.
You will also have opportunities for internships outside the school, such as a summer painting camp, visiting exhibitions and art events both in Estonia and abroad, and meeting artists.
In addition, you will have plenty of opportunities to participate in organizing projects, often created in collaboration with various art and research institutions, or to study further at different European universities through the Erasmus+ program.
After graduation:
You will have acquired a profession that provides excitement for a lifetime, enables you to adapt to the labor market, and even shape it.
You will have found like-minded people and friends.
You will be ready to contribute to the art scene as a freelance artist, sole proprietor, or team member—whether in painting, monumental art, illustration, or other related professions in galleries, museums, and various art institutions.
As an artist, you will be able to analyze your own and others’ work, set goals, and apply your skills in a broader cultural context.
You will be ready to continue your studies at the master’s level.
Art helps reflect and interpret society. Art provides experiences.
The Painting and Restoration curriculum was established in 1996 under the leadership of Professor Heli Tuksam. Since 2021, the department has been headed by Margus Meinart. The department has numerous long-standing contacts with various European art academies, where our students actively continue their studies through the Erasmus+ program.
From the 2024/2025 academic year, the curriculum will be called Painting (previously: Painting and Restoration).
