DEPARTMENT OF MEDIA DESIGN

The strength of  Department of Media Design is its multifaceted nature. Head of Department is Jaanus Eensalu. The department’s curriculum can be divided into two large blocks: graphic design and media design.

GRAPHIC DESIGN
Graphic design covers print media and related fields. It is mainly studied during the first two years of the program, but the knowledge gained in this area forms the foundation for every professional project. Subjects within graphic design include vector graphics and stylistics, printing technologies, prepress, digital painting, layout design, packaging design, corporate and information graphics, and more. The responsible lecturer is Professor Marko Kekišev.

MEDIA DESIGN
Media design covers subjects related to video editing, web media, interactive multimedia, animation, and 3D graphics. Courses in this field include video editing and genres, animation theory and techniques, animation and video projects, media art and anthropology, 3D graphics, user interface and web design, pixel graphics and digital painting, as well as applications and processing in sound design, among others. The responsible lecturer is Professor Raivo Kelomees.

In both fields, students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. A key part of the curriculum consists of practical projects and collaborations with real clients.

Students of the department actively participate in both local and international competitions and festivals, often achieving remarkable results.

Graduation projects include products of graphic design, audiovisual, and interactive media: interactive presentations, website designs, videos, films, animations, book designs, complete advertising projects, corporate identity systems, and more.

Graduates of the program work in media and advertising companies as designers, art directors, graphic and web designers. Many have also founded their own companies or successfully work as freelance designers. Several have continued their studies at the master’s level.

From 2001 to 2007, the department was lead by Raivo Kelomees. Since 2008, the head of the department has been Jaanus Eensalu.
