New curriculum Conservation and Restoration brings together the competencies of restoration of paintings, furniture and paper, which previously were located in different departments. Objectives
to provide high-quality applied higher education in the field of conservation-restoration of heritage objects;
ensure the preparation of specialists with professional skills that meet the requirements of the labor market, enabling them to realize set goals independently and/or in teamwork in the field of conservation and restoration of heritage;
to create in learners a comprehensive idea of the part of conservation and restoration in the preservation of cultural heritage, based on the principles of sustainable development;
to develop in the learner the ability to study independently and to be aware of the need for professional development and continuing education;
ensure the competence of graduates in accordance with the conservator requirements described in level 6 of the qualification framework;
ensure the curriculum’s openness to changes and development in today’s dynamic world, based on international experiences in higher education, and the competence of bachelor’s studies graduates in applied higher education to continue their studies in professional master’s programs.
The curriculum is completed by a specialist who will have a broad range of essential skills and will:
understands the development trends, action mechanisms and functions of cultural heritage in society;
can analyze his activities as a conservator restorer and can engage in professional work as an individual entrepreneur and team member as well as in cooperation with experts in other fields;
knows how to consciously choose suitable work methods, materials and tools to solve a professional task and applies them in accordance with the principles of environmental sustainability;
can conserve and restore heritage objects in accordance with the conservator requirements described in level 6 of the qualification framework;
can formulate and analyze preservation problems, set goals, plan work and the time required for it, communicate ideas and involve different parties in the conservation-restoration process;
can deal with professional questions in accordance with the requirements of the research work, orients himself in professional literature;
has practical basic skills of artistic expression, which support a creative attitude towards the profession;
has basic knowledge of philosophy, cultural, artistic and professional history, visual semiotics, pedagogy and entrepreneurship;
can express himself orally and in writing in Estonian and at least one foreign language and has international study experience; copes in different language and cultural environments;
has an active attitude as a citizen, has a tolerant attitude towards different cultures, attitudes and values.
