Longing. A joint exhibition of Estonia’s younger generation photographers

Gallery Pallas
13.08–13.09.2025

On Wednesday, 13 August, at 5 PM, the basement floor of gallery Pallas will open the joint exhibition “Longing” by five young-generation photographers. The display focuses on noticing and appreciating beauty, emotions, and sentimentality.

“There is something in beauty that I’m missing – sentimentality. Something that is sentimental is always beautiful,” said photographer Vincent Peters. Guided by the thoughts of the world-famous photographer, five artists invite visitors to reflect on beauty, emotions, and sentimentality. In contrast to the prevailing themes in contemporary art, where these concepts are often diminished or even excluded, “Longing” places them back at the center.

In parallel, the artists emphasize through portrait photography and videos the nature and importance of pause. The works explore the ability of pause to detach from visual noise, norms, and speed, restoring the strength to reconnect with oneself and the surrounding world.

The exhibition presents works by authors whose creative practice weaves together humanity, nature, beauty, and longing:

  • Julia Astok’s London College of Fashion, University of Arts London) fashion photography inspired by nature and painting;
  • Luisa Greta Vilo (Pallas University of Applied Sciences) reflects connection and its absence in her photo series;
  • Tuule-Mari Kaarna (Pallas University of Applied Sciences) – invites viewers to ask themselves whom and what they long for;
  • Margaret Mäses (Baltic Film, Media, and Arts School, Tallinn University) leads the viewer into peace and nature through the lyrical dreamlike quality of her videos;
  • Renee Altrov (Pallas University of Applied Sciences) combines the classical portrait with fresh perspectives.

The exhibition is curated by Eva Kram (Pallas University of Applied Sciences).

The display brings together graduates from different schools. With their diverse backgrounds, the young photographers add conceptual depth and visual sensitivity to the gallery environment.

The exhibition was first held in March 2023 as part of Pärnu PhotoFest “pAUS.”
