Kätriin Säde. My Red Bedbugs

Kätriin Säde. My Red Bedbugs
25.04.-24.05.2025
Opening: 25.04.2025 at 5 pm

On Friday, 25 April at 5 pm Kätriin Säde will open her solo exhibition “My Red Bedbugs” in the project room of the Gallery Pallas. The exhibition explores the journey of self-understanding and acceptance through characters inspired by the European firebugs.

The author describes her exhibition as follows: „ In 2023, I was a visiting student through ERASMUS at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, where I started depicting red insects inspired by European firebugs in my paintings. Characters whose essence was to illustrate what I had difficulty expressing in words. I would best introduce the same red insects as my personal demons, but they are certainly not enemies, nor are they exactly allies. They are organic, just as we simply are.
In English, there is an expression for going to sleep: “Sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite”. This is exactly the aspiration that my paintings symbolize. How to deal with generational worries and trauma so that your personal bedbugs don’t completely chew you up.
I hope that I have finally reached something like a symbiosis with my own bedbugs. “

Kätriin Säde (b 2001) graduated from Tartu Art School as a decorator in 2021 and is currently studying painting at the Pallas University of Applied Sciences. In 2023, she was awarded the Pallas Scholarship in the field of arts.
