International group exhibition “±5″”

On Friday, July 14th, at 4 pm, an international group exhibition “±5″” will be opened by artists from Finland – Clément Beraud, Sini Havukainen, Mirka Hämäläinen, Kimmo Kumela, Heidi Lahtinen, Jaakko Leeve, Viv Magia, and Nelly Toussaint – at Gallery Pallas in Tartu, Estonia.

+ or – 5cm to the left is the guiding principle when installing artworks for this exhibition. The exhibition emphasizes eight different works by artists who also work as art handlers or technicians, setting up museum and gallery exhibitions in Helsinki. They are often being left invisible on the scene.

The idea for this exhibition came up when all of them were installing Helsinki biennale in 2021. It sparked a discussion about promoting their own work to re-establish and empowering themselves and give space to invisible artworks. Through this exhibition, they aim to question and discuss social class and the hierarchical structures within the art world.

The exhibition is supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation and Pallas University of Applied Sciences.

The exhibitions at gallery Pallas will remain open until August 12th.
