3rd year students of Pallas UAS Department of Textile explore their personal stories through textile medium.

The aim of this project was to find a personal story, reflect it through experimental fabric/structure and integrate it into exhibition context. In this exhibition, the three questions – WHO, WHERE, WHY – reflect the individuality of each student and a creative way to connect these questions together. The questions themselves in this creative process were the most important part, the purpose was not to answer them. In the creative process, the students explored various issues, re-created and retold them. These stories talk about current universal problems such as climate change, recycling, sustainability, second-hand use etc through the artistic field of textile art.

Each student chose a personal place and a textile memory connected to it. This memory provokes new thoughts and new artistic creation, that they want to rescue from the past – filtering it through the present, making a mark in the future. Understanding the place through its temporal dimension, thinking and rethinking the definitions based on the relations that are established between geographic and identity space, artistic and aesthetic, of memory and imagination, thus insisting in the idea of place as inhabited space. Through reflective practices about the place and textile, experiencing personal stories, it may be possible to give way to new discourses. Appropriating the memory, inhabiting the uninhabited, common or individual, the inane becoming alive as a new textile perspective.
