Rendezvous: Evi Tihemets and Kaupo Kikkas

For the first time in Tartu: a joint exhibition by graphic artist Evi Tihemets and photographer Kaupo Kikkas<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From 19 September, Gallery Pallas will host the exhibition \u201cRendezvous: Evi Tihemets and Kaupo Kikkas\u201d, continuing a collaboration that began a year ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since the 1950s, Evi Tihemets (b. 1932) has been capturing the Estonian landscape and the traces of human presence within it. Nearly 60 years later, Kaupo Kikkas (b. 1983) embarked on similar journeys, resulting in the audiovisual work \u201cTraces\u201d (in collaboration with musician Erki P\u00e4rnoja). Tihemets was among the first to recognise in Kikkas\u2019s work a shared sensibility \u2013 an artistic and existential perception that connects two people not only here and now, but across generations. Thus began both a friendship and a shared path of exhibitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In autumn 2024, their first joint exhibition took place at the Krull Quarter in Tallinn. It quickly became clear that this was not a one-off project, but only the beginning. Now the artists come together in Tartu, where the spacious rooms of Gallery Pallas have made it possible to expand the exhibition and present a wider selection of works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWorking with Evi and Kaupo has deepened my understanding of the monumental power of art \u2013 generations may change, yet as human beings we continue to return to the same questions, and we are closer to one another than we might think,\u201d said curator Kadri Asmer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to graphic art and photography, the exhibition features sound and video projections based on the works of both Tihemets and Kikkas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exhibition runs until 18 October. Artist and curator tours will take place on 24 September at 5 pm (Kaupo Kikkas) and on 11 October at 3 pm (Kadri Asmer).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
