“Beyond Perceived Boundaries” – a Collaborative Exhibition of Three Creative Universities

On the 28th of November at 7 p.m., the collaborative exhibition “Beyond Perceived Boundaries” will open in the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre concert hall lobby gallery. The exhibition brings together, for the first time, the works of students and alumni from the Estonian Academy of Arts, Pallas University of Applied Sciences, and the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.

Whilst reflecting on the necessity of boundaries, the exhibition’s curator arrived at the idea of expanding them. This is an attempt to renounce predetermined frameworks, reaching toward the construction of new conventions altogether. Through diverse techniques, the artists offer interpretations of both the cultural and spiritual vastness of existence. The virtues of the digital world, which are increasingly intertwined with everyday life, also find their place here, while providing insight to the complexities of human relationships. By setting boundaries for others, we inevitably become ensnared within our own — and here, imaginative creators visualize possible ways out, for whom the very act of overcoming obstacles holds intrinsic value.

“In today’s world, where mobility, digital connections, and intercultural dialogue have become everyday realities, the question resurfaces: where does the boundary lie, and what does it mean to cross it?” asks the exhibition’s curator, raising the issue of art’s potential boundlessness.

The warm relations between Estonia’s creative universities have long inspired the search for new forms of collaboration. This summer, the student unions of the three schools, together with the rector of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, created fertile ground for a joint exhibition to take shape. This collaborative exhibition invites various art forms into co-creation, paving the way for continued cooperation in new formats in the future.

The choice to open the exhibition at the end of November is no coincidence — it provides an opportunity to gather before the exam season and winter obligations, and to raise a glass in mutual celebration.
The exhibition will remain open until the 1st of February, 2026.
