The curriculum of painting and restoration was founded in 1996. The Head of Department is Margus Meinart.
The aim of the Department of Painting is to provide a broad education in painting and the conservation/restoration of historical interior paintings. Of particular importance is the sensitivity to change over time while remaining connected to tradition. The department emphasizes classical study and proficiency in different painting techniques. It is possible to specialize in two fields: arts and restoration/conservation. The selection has to be made before the beginning of studies.
Students specializing in arts will learn to design both historical and contemporary spaces, will be well-versed in the history of interior design, will be familiar with historical styles, contemporary design practices and artistic trends, the students will be able to design monumental art in urban spaces as well as dedicate themselves to free creative activity.
The focus of the conservation/restoration track is the conservation of wall and ceiling paintings, and the handling of historical interiors.
