DEPARTMENT OF MEDIA DESIGN

The strength of  Department of Media Design is its multifaceted nature. The department’s curriculum can be divided into two large blocks: graphic design and media design. Head of Department is Jaanus Eensalu.

Graphic design covers subjects concerned with print media. This field is mostly studied during the first two years, but good knowledge in this subject forms the basis for all future professional projects. Composition and styling, print technologies, typography, professional drawing, photo manipulation, desktop publishing, packaging design, advertising technology, corporate and info graphics are only some amongst many subject matters taught as a part of the graphic design curriculum. The lecturer in charge is Professor Marko Kekišev.

Media design covers subjects concerned with video editing, web media and interactive multimedia, animation and 3D-graphics. Amongst the curriculum are subjects such as video directing, video montage, special effects and animation, animation theory and techniques, 3D-graphics, Flash, user interface design, web design, sound design, virtual space etc. The lecturer in charge is Professor Raivo Kelomees.

Students get both a theoretical knowledge as well as a practical experience in both of these fields. Practical projects and collaboration with real customers are an important part of the curriculum.
The department’s students are actively partaking in local and international competitions and festivals, where they have often received noteworthy results.
